Why is my child not focusing? How to improve his/her attention?

If it’s happening after school, their mind could be tired and exhausted from all the school stimulation: in class, special activities and at recess. Give them a short break, try after dinner when their tummy is full and digesting, or plan to do the most homework pages on the shortest day of the week: wednesday.

Where are the best places to do homework?

  • A table and chair with no distraction around: toys, music, tv
  • A space where you can see what they are doing if they are young (kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade)
  • Doing homework outside while it’s sunny could be a great experience and help them feel more motivated to finish.

How much time should my child spend on homework?

It depends on the level and age but a good recommendation would be to add 5 minutes more every year they enter the next grade. If it’s 5 minutes per day on Kindergarten, go up to 10 minutes per day in 1st grade, etc
